SHEER has been working!

The collective has created a strategic plan for 2011 – 2013, and we look forward to posting here for you to read! Thanks for checking in and for your patience.

We’ve created some workgroups and committees. SHEER committees exist with the intention of gathering long-term and include communications, membership, speakers, and community accountability. Workgroups exist to organize around a specific task and disband when that task is complete, and currently include a SHEER Change workgroup to plan our annual event for this March!

Please contact sheeronline@gmail.com and search ‘S.H.E.E.R.’ on facebook!

Septemba to rememba!

The strategic plan is coming along swimmingly!

Please join us on Monday, September 26th from 7 – 9, location TBD, to hear about and dialogue around the plan! We will go over our goals for the next two years and provide organizing opportunities for folks interested in being more active with us. There are several workgroups and committees to be formed, so if you have any skills you’d like to offer SHEER, we hope you find space to do so!

Once the plan is written we will post on the website so that interested folks can access it here.

Please email us at sheeronline(at)gmail.com for anything and if you’d like to attend the September collective meeting! We are always looking for folks to host!

So much love from us to you! Thank you for visiting our site, showing us love, supporting us, and thinking about consent.

Ps. When I googled image searched “glitter and consent” this is what came up:

loves.

SHEER is planning, strategically!

Hello folks!

We feel it’s time to buckle down and create a sustainable plan for 2011 - 2013!

We began the process with a steering meeting, then a collective meeting which consisted of reviewing our work from the past year & 1/2 and a brainstorming session of our hopes & dreams for the following categories, in no particular order:

  • digital presence & promotional
  • clarifying structure
  • programming (what should sheer do?)
  • stakeholders & accountability
  • diversity/accountability
  • funding/501c3 status
  • more (undefined category, space for members to create own)

Next, we’re meeting tonight with interested collective members to conduct a healing/restorative/peacemaking circle, SWOT (strength, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) activity, scope activity, and munch some dinner!

We will meet this weekend for a longer meeting to hammer out what we come up with this evening, design our plan, and more!

This is a very exciting time for SHEER and we are so glad and thankful to share it with you! If you have any hopes & dreams for us to work on, please email sheeronline(at)gmail.com!

In glitter & love…

SHEER is (still) here.

Well, it’s been a little while since we’ve sent something out into the world via this site. For now, let’s do a mini recap of the past few months.

1. SHEER Change 2011 happened! It was a ball! Many of you came out to celebrate our existence and thank some Chicago activists for doing what they do. Here is a photo:

2. SHEER presented at AASECT’s national conference: SexCon. A couple of our people presented on how hot sex can prevent rape and it was very well recieved! The participants were eager for more!

3. Our most recent collective meeting fostered some space for dialogue around rape culture. We passed around a list to share ways we can fight rape culture and Clarisse Thorne posted it to her blog! There are tons of comments on the post! Read here.

4. SHEER was accepted as a presenter at SisterSong 2011! Our people planned to present on pro-consent education, but it looks like our presence may be as part of a dialogue pannel or tabling instead… we’ll keep ya posted.

5. We’ve conducted several workshops at sexual assault crisis intervention trainings & in a high school. Some topics include: how hot sex can prevent rape, sex positive anti rape work, supporting survivors in the sex trade spectrum, and giving & getting what we want.

6. Keep your eyes peeled on Windy City Times, as one of our members did an interview with them about SHEER! She talked about our roots and what we’ve done thus far.

7. And finally, we were present at SlutWalk Chicago! One of our members spoke during the speakers series about consent!  She talked about how consent is personal and active, and SlutWalk participants enthusastically received her words.

Well folks, that’s about it for now. If you’d like to get involved, please email sheeronline@gmail.com & come out to our next collective meeting on Monday, June 27th from 7 – 9pm. We’ll spend some time on an educational piece and planning our next action steps!

THE LINE with Nancy Schwartzman was here!

…And we loved it!

Our first community education event was fabulous, with close to 100 attendees and donations reaching $500.00!

The talkback was a fruitful one- filled with righteous views, relevant questions, and safe space.  The discussion surrounded THE LINE, sexual assault, consent to sex, gender-based violence, and more. Many folks took home some buttons and offered their views and experiences. We had much support from queer communities and female identified folks, and look forward to time spent with whomever visits us next! We are grateful for your feedback. support, and sweet lovin.

Thank you to Black Rock Pub for hosting us!

Thank you to Nancy Schwartzman! Consider exploring her current project, xoxosms.

We look forward to learning with you in the future.
